I Don't Think This Got Enough Press

Sen. Joe Biden in Seattle, WA at a fundraiser on Sunday, October 19, 2008:
“And here's the point I want to make. Mark my words. Mark my words. It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We're about to elect a brilliant 47-year old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don't remember anything else I said. Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy. And he's gonna have to make some really tough - I don't know what the decision's gonna be, but I promise you it will occur."
“...I guarantee you it's gonna happen. I can give you at least four or five scenarios from where it might originate. And he's gonna need help. And the kind of help he's gonna need is, he's gonna need you, not financially to help him, we're gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it's not gonna be apparent initially, it's not gonna be apparent that we're right. Because all these decisions, all these decisions, once they're made if they work, then they weren't viewed as a crisis.”

well we have been having moments like this over and over again with Bush. With 911 we all stood with him but then after that we didn't.

So do you think that this is a bad thing Biden is saying?

Duh, we are in the middle of crisis, is it magically going to go away because we elected someone new? Will the war suddenly end and will the market say "just kidding, I didn't mean to freak you out! Just trying to give Bush a hard time!"

I think we are in a time similar to the past - things are broken and they need fix'n. God can do it, lets just hope its in His will and timing to fix it now. Hopefully we are not so far gone that He has allowed things to just play out...

The statements alone seem, off the cuff and unplanned. I think the most worrisome statement is, "...it's gonna happen."

As you stated, things are happening and going to happen, but why the "Mark my words...it's gonna happen."

I dislike the expectance of, "it's going to get worse" when his campaign slogan is "change." Instead of hoping in this amazing "change," Biden tell us we can look forward to a "generated crisis." GREAT!

And his confidence in the decision making of the possible leader of the United States is "if they work."

They are some very unsettling statements that Obama defended earlier this week. I think these misunderstandings and "explanations" might hurt us at home and international. Maybe that is a stretch, but...

Our only faith should be in Jesus Christ. He is my King! So, I am not too worried, but I thought the statements were worthy of posting to see what others thought.

Obama's response, “Joe sometimes engages in rhetorical flourishes, but I think his core point was that the next administration is going to be tested, regardless of who it is. The next administration is going to be inheriting a host of really big problems.”
